The steps of your EPR compliance process
EPR in France is complex. As a producer, your EPR compliance process requires painstaking work, which can be summarised chronologically as follows:
- First, find out which EPR schemes your products fall under
- Contact the producer responsibility organisations (PROs) in charge of these schemes and review their rules and proposed contract
- Choose the PROs when there are several
- Register with these PROs through their online portal.
- Check that you have obtained your EPR unique identification numbers (UINs), or if you already hold UINs, verify their validity with ADEME (the French environment agency)
- Check your email regularly to make sure you don't miss any declaration deadlines or regulatory and pricing updates
- Every year, submit your declarations to each PRO you are registered with. For each product, you will need to find the correct eco-contribution fee scale among the many available, for each scheme and each PRO concerned
Each PRO has its own registration process. This means that if your products fall under, for example, 4 schemes, you will probably need to register with 4 PROs, adapt each time to a different process, and enter your information 4 times for registration.
